The 2005 IADC Golf tournament was held Saturday June 18th at Buzios Golf Club & Resort, in Buzios, RJ, Brazil. You can find the pictures of the participants here.

A great day arose, sunny skies and very little wind, making this challenging golf course a pleasure to play. 33 teams started, a total of 130 golfers ! The play format was Texas scramble, a format often used in events like this to encourage less skilled golfers and beginners to participate, as to recruit more people to enjoy this great sport.

Saturday morning opened with a breakfast in the clubhouse, along with the registration of players and organizingBusy_golfclub.jpg the teams. Although with a little late tee-off due to some operational challenges with the registration this year, the shotgun was fired 09:45.

During the round all par 3 holes had closest to the pin competitions, the longest drive competition was held at the driving range between the 9th and the 10th tee, and additionally there was a double-or-nothing bet for charity going on at the 9th hole. A R$ 10 bet would pay R$ 20 back if you hit GIR. This activity alone raised R$ 700 for charity !

The tournament was won by team 9A, a three men team consisting of Barry Prudhomme, Lawrence King, and Alex Church. 2nd place went to team 3A, with Robert Stables, Gavin Hunting, Roberto Rodrigues, and Per Breivik. The 3rd place was acquired by team 4B, another threesome of Paulo da Silva, Mario Piragibe, and Gerrit Rooker. Longest men’s drive was won by Al Wiatrek with 244,99 yards, and women’s by Selma Kehoe with 148 yards. Closest to the pin holes; A-player Pat Williams on hole 9, B-player Robert Stables on hole 17, C-player Roberto Fernaine on hole 12, and D-player Ed Riley on hole 4.

The winner’s ceremony with the traditional raffle took place straight after the tournament, with lots of great prices as golfclubs, bags, utilities, airtickets, etc.etc.Charity_Auction.jpg

A charity auction was also held adjacent to the winner’s ceremony, which, along with the no.9 betting hole, raised R$ 4.400,00 to a local charity organization in Macae !

The event was rounded up with a great (352 attending guests !) banquet for all players with their companions and our sponsors, that did not end until 04:30 Sunday morning.

Macae Oilmen’s Golf Association, on behalf of the 2005 IADC Golf Tournament Committee, wishes to thank all players that attended this traditional golf tournament, all our sponsors for their great support, and last but not least, the tournament committee wives for their patience for the countless hours their husbands spent the last two months in the planning activities.

Welcome back to our next tournament, Oilmen’s are coming in October !
