The two clubs in Rio (Itanhanga & Gavea) are "relatively closed" as being private clubs, and quite expensive. Both clubs require you being "voted" in by existing members.
If you're travelling out of town, you'll find Buzios on the coast (about 2 hrs from Rio) with 18 holes, and in the mountains you'll have Teresopolis & Petropolis, both 9-holers. All these three clubs welcomes new members, although to a bit different price levels.
I suggest that you take a weekend and play all three courses, and ask in the reception for membership options to choose for yourself.
Another option could be golden green in Barra, a 6-holes par-3 course, although I guess you'd be a bit bored after a few weeks... you walk the course with an 8-iron, sandwedge and putter...
