What an interesting and timely site for me to find! I saw the link on gringoes.com (which I also just found) and followed it over.
My story. I am an American. Spent about a year and a half (about 2 weeks a month) in Brazil from 2000-2001. Loved the place. Fell in love with a Brazilian. We were married. She has been living here in the United States since late 2002.
My company is going through a reorganization. Downsizing radically. Rather than be forced out I am going to take a package and retire at 54. Probably between this September and next March.
Early retirement in the USA probably isn't an option financially. My wife is a bit homesick for her family. So we're going to opt to retire in Brazil. Probably Guaruja. We've been there many times over hte years. And love the place.
I love golf. Although I've never been better than a 18 handicap. And haven't played much at all this year. I had a quadruple bypass in February and have been coming back slowly.
I know that golf is slowly making inroads in Brazil. And in fact Guaruja has a course. So it's nice to know that I should bring my clubs instead of selling them!!!
