Itanhanga Golf club was founded in 1933, and is hence the second oldest in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Located in Barra de Tijuca, called the “new Rio”, where most investments are taking place nowadays, you have numerous shopping malls and good restaurants just a good 7-iron away… That is if you don’t opt for utilizing the club’s fully equipped bar, restaurant, pool area, etc.

The club has 27 holes, whereof the first 18 have a minimum hcp requirement of 32. The fairways are reasonably narrow, surrounded by huge beautiful old trees, of which some must be hundreds of years old. For this reason you better carry some low lofted irons in your bag, which you undoubtedly will need for punching out balls underneath the evergreen leafs every now and then. Very well maintained fairways, and fast greens. Some of these are quite hard though, not as receptive as you maybe wanted, and balls easily end up a little further than planned. Low handicappers with good spin control on the approach shot will have a benefit here.

A full size driving range, and an 18-hole putting green fullfills this traditional private golf club in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, where you will need an invitation by a member to be able to play.
